Since 1998, BV sport has been conducting pioneering medical research on the venous return system. It has established itself as a reference for the support compression field for athletes of all levels. 10 years of ground breaking scientific research, several clinical studies which have been published in the most prestigious international scientific journals demonstrates our expertise. In addition three international patents and 12 years collaboration with technical and medical staff from professional federations and clubs have laid the foundations for our technical product ranges which are adapted to suit all sporting disciplines.

In 1989, Dr. Serge Couzan was supervising Dr. Michaël Prüfer’s thesis on research into blood circulation problems associated with athletes. Michaël Prüfer was then a multiple record holder and speed-skiing world champion. He won the gold medal in that discipline at the Albertville Winter Olympics in 1992.

The two vascular doctors combined their specialist skills, and thanks to their research among top athletes invented and developed a revolutionary concept designed to improve muscular performance and to speed up recovery: gradual support sock that places particular pressure in the calf area so as to speed up venous return, unlike standard support garments that place pressure upon the ankle. It was from this research that the patent was born.

Based upon cutting edge technology and physical knowledge the research has lead to the development of a Doppler Ultrasound blood pressure monitor (DUBPM). This monitor has been internationally patented. It allows you to use ultrasound to measure vein pressure. The results have been validated by MRI (nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging), in London, Zurich and Saint-Étienne, by Dr. Jean-Francois Pouget, a radiologist and member of the BV SPORT research centre.
