Makin Trax

• Makin Trax Australia, is an innovative small business that specialises in design, construction, maintenance and remediation of environmentally sustainable mountain bike, walking and multi-use track networks. Their goal is to create world class experiences for the end user.

• Makin Trax Australia was established in 2005 by Darren Stewart and his partner Heather. Darren, a passionate mountain biker, started out as a volunteer building some of Canberra’s most well know mountain biking tracks such as Sparrow Hill, Majura Pines and Stromlo and Greenhills before the fires. It was the devastating Canberra bushfires of 2003, the construction of Stromlo Forrest Park and in particular the reconstruction of its mountain bike facilities, which turned Darren’s passion into his profession.

• Makin Trax Australia worked extensively on the rebuild of Stromlo Forest Park area, turning it into the world class facility that was the host of the 2009 UCI World Mountain Bike and Trials Championships. Makin Trax played a big part in delivering this world class event, and the XC track was widely hailed by competitors as the best on the world circuit and the UCI acclaimed the venue as a complete success.

• Makin Trax Australia is set to construct a mountain bike Pump Track for the cycling industries leading trade show Ausbike Australia, 21-23 August at the Melbourne Showgrounds. Trade show attendees will be able to put their bikes through their paces on an exciting track where riders will pump over rollers and around berms to try and beat their best time. Mountain bike pump tracks are rapidly growing in popularity and range in scale from backyard versions through to larger recreational facility standard. The tracks are designed to be ridden with a hard-tail mountain bike that the rider ‘pumps’ around the track rather than pedalling, using the momentum generated from rollers berms and transitions.
